Josie Waddell (Owner/Director)
Josie has danced for over 20 years. After dancing at a small studio for years doing tap, jazz lyrical, ballet and even gymnastics, she realized her dreams were bigger. At the age of 13 she started intensive training at the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre. She has danced with Bodyvox, Utah Regional Ballet, and most recently Portland Festival Ballet under the tutelage of the late John Magnus (previous Joffrey school director). She has won many awards including a national title of Dancer of the Year. She has also performed professional roles in ballets like Romeo and Juliet, and, of course, the Nutcracker, including the coveted role of Sugar Plum. She has been teaching for years at the previous Reach For the Stars Dance Studio here in Woodland. As well as Timpanogos Dance Studio in Utah, and Portland Festival Ballet. She has even won a choreography award for thinking "out of the box". Most of all, she feels its time to give opportunities to those in her small community to shine and develope and share their passion for dance.
Jessica Sahim (Jazz Instructor)
Jessica Sahim is a mother of 3, has been dancing for over 25 years and has performed all over the United States and Canada. During her younger years she was able to dance parts in the ballet of Cinderella and Swan Lake, and also danced with the “Portland Pride” Dance Team. She has taken class from many professional dancers including Travis Wall from the TV show “So you think you can dance”. She successfully owned her own dance studio for 10 years and has won several choreography awards. Her dancers have won many awards including the chance to represent the United States in Dance World Cup. She continues her training by regularly taking master classes with her students at various competitions, and never tires of learning new things. She is also going to school to become a school teacher!
April Fivecoats (Tap Instructor)
Trevor Buck (Tumbling Instructor)
Discovered he had a talent for tricks at a young age. Walking on his hands was as easy for him as walking on his feet. He trained at various gymnastics facilities until he found his ultimate passion-The Circus! His ease at tumbling made it easy for him to adapt to the silks, trapeze, uniciyce and even stilts. He performed at corporate events through Pendulum Aeriel Dance Theatre around the United States, and even performed in a music Video. We are beyond excited to have him as a staff member!
Becca Olmsted (Creative Dance/Jazz instructor)
Becca has been dancing since a young age, and was trained by Jessica Sahim, Josie Waddell and Sarah Sanders (Higher Ground Dance). She won many awards at various competitions with her group! Her routines for little girls are often fan favorites at the end of year recital!
Kristi Gillaspie (Tap/Jazz)
Kristi was one of Josie Waddell's first tap students, and won a scholarship at her very first convention at a young age. She went on to compete with Reach for the Stars Dance Studio, and Higher Ground Dance Studio won awards with many solos, and we're so excited for her to join us this year!
